Food is the most powerful clinical intervention against chronic disease doctors have. We should be able to write recipes on prescription slips, just like prescription medication. And every doctor should know how. - Dr. John La Puma

Found your blog via Weighty Matters. Just wanted to note that doctors actually used to prescribe recipes. If you read Sherlock Holmes stories, which are set in Britain in the Victorian era and feature a Victorian doctor as Holmes' sidekick, a significant amount of medical interventions seems to consist of prescriptions for things like beef tea. It wasn't uncommon for the doctor to give a recipe to the house cook. Victorian doctors didn't have the nutritional knowledge we do today, but given the state of medicine at the time, these recipes may have been one of the least harmful medicines a doctor could prescribe!

Here's another interesting quote: "It's bizarre that the produce manager is more important to my children's health than the pediatrician." - Meryl Streep
