I recommend watching this entire video.
I watched this on PBS and found it fascinating. Based on the information, one exercise that I will add to my routine: A one-minute high-intensity stationary cycling routine (3-times per week). That's 12-minutes a month. And, based on the science in this report, it will assist in making a major health change. That's 12-minutes per month!
I recommend watching this entire video.

Diet and health experts love to hate McDonald's, Coke, and many other junk food purveyors. However, we give organizations like the Girl Scouts a pass. If anything, we should hold the Girl Scouts to a higher standard. After all, they serve the kids that we are concerned about.
So to all those people "beating up" on the obvious junk food corporations, take a look at the obvious and start including the Girl Scouts. The CDC states: More than one in six children and adolescents are obese, a rate that has tripled since 1980. So, why do the Girl Scouts promote this ... The food and health elite want you - the overweight and unhealthy - to change your eating and exercise habits. They are all over the Internet, TV, and other media advising you to make a change to healthier habits.
Beyond all the crap and junk food that "we" eat, there is one other huge problem: The food and health elite rarely, if ever, ask that segment of the population: "Are you ready, willing, and able to make a change?" So, we sit on our "bully-pulpit" yelling and screaming: "Make a change! It's for your own good. If you don't lose weight, you might get diabetes, have a heart attack or a stroke." My recommendation: Let's ask these people if they are reading, willing, and able to make a change. Many are not. So, let's stop "beating them up". By the way, if you are thinking of going on a lifestyle change, you might want to answer these questions first. I'm a big believer in weight/resistance training. Here's the reason. Imagine a vast national experiment to encourage weight gain. We put fast food on every corner, we put junk food in schools, we got rid of P.E., we put candy and soda at the checkout stand of every retail outlet you can think of.The results are in. It worked. - Dr. Harold Goldstein
