This is a good primer about dieting. In her presentation, she mentions Dr. Rudy Leibel's research. His research is fascinating and ... most people are not aware of it ... and it is probably the main reason for re-gaining weight that has been lost. Dr. Leibel explains here. Ten Things to Do After Turning 60
1. Climb a tree - I do it with my grandson. 2. Play in the rain - Occasionally, I enjoy running in the rain. It makes me feel like a kid. 3. Roll down a hill - Does falling while running in the woods count? 4. Sleep beneath the stars - I love nature ... it's my meditation. 5. Dig for worms - I'm going to have to. Going fishing with my grandson - on a nearby dock. 6. Climb a big rock - When I hike, rocks tend to "get in the way". 7. Build a sandcastle - Frequently, we dig for China. 8. Go for a hike - Just went on a beautiful one the other day. 9. Plant something and watch it grow - Annually, basil and tomatoes. 10. Row a boat - My kayak is in my garage. But I prefer my motor boat while downing a whole bunch of carbs. When I receive emails like this, I lose credibility in the source. In this case, Dr. Mark Hyman. He's the author of a best-selling book - The Blood Sugar Solution 10-Day Detox Diet and can be seen on PBS.
No matter, much of what he professes cannot be scientifically proven. I'll pass on: Dr. Hyman, excessive sugar consumption and cocaine too - except for Eric Clapton's song. And here's another shocking fact: Sugar is eight times as addictive as cocaine. Being addicted to sugar and flour is not an emotional eating disorder. It's a biological disorder, driven by hormones and neurotransmitters that fuel sugar and carb cravings — leading to uncontrolled overeating. Well, if we took Jack Lalanne's advice over 50-years-ago, we would not be an overweight and unhealthy nation. Here's a snippet from one of his shows. He asked his viewers to stop consuming the items below.
So, if you are dazed and confused by all the newfangled information floating around, pay attention to Jack Lalanne. I assume if fast-food existed back then, it would have made the list! Way back in 1963, Ricky Nelson sang about Google, Facebook, and Amazon - a man ahead of his time.3/5/2014 Well, the ubiquitous Got Milk campaign is being retired. Now, the dairy industry will promote its protein (the new wonder nutrient) content. Hey, I'm all for protein. In the video below, it compares an 8-ounce glass of milk to an omelet.
Here's my assessment: I'll choose an egg every time over milk. Here are the reasons: 1) I prefer not to drink my calories (8-ounce glass of milk is 136 calories). The reason: fluids provide no satiety - just empty calories. 2) An egg, has 6-grams of protein and 70-calories. Yes, it will provide the feeling of satiety. So, I say: "Got Eggs?" And, more importantly are they safe? I love these two comedic spoofs about the massive prescription drug industry, however, there is a serious problem brewing ... learn more here. My goal is to move people toward living a healthier lifestyle. Get motivated: between our horrific food environment, complex medical care system, and big pharma pushing pills (just watch the commercials on the evening news), motivation is just around the corner.
My latest and greatest find - Cauliflower Hash Browns. The first time I ate these I was shocked because it tasted incredible. Here's the recipe (I think the egg is optional and for extra-crispy it takes longer than the recipe advises).
Sid Caesar died today at age 91. If you are a health nut, you will laugh like crazy at this video.2/12/2014 ... I watched this presentation by Michael Pollan. I found it interesting, intriguing, and quite disturbing. It sucked me in and I wanted to learn more. After watching this presentation, I have done thousands of hours of research. I'm fascinated by our food, health, and medical culture. During my research, I decided to change my lifestyle. In 80 days, I lost 30-pounds and had other health benefits. The important issue: For the first time in my life, I found it easy to lose weight. Since I've written over 20-books and "my claim to fame" is that I simplify things, I decided to write Feed Your Head - a simple and fun (lots of cartoons) book that addresses my concept for losing weight. Watch the video below. Maybe it will be the impetus to move you toward a healthier lifestyle. An article: Some of My Best Friends are Germs and a video ... ... When entering CVS, I often wonder: Have I entered a drug store or a candy store? While this picture shows a tremendous amount of Halloween candy, CVS has a tremendous amount of candy year-round. Update: On February 5, 2014, CVS announced no more tobacco. So, here's my question? What about candy, soda, and the other processed crap that you sell? Of course, all that junk food will remain. If CVS did get rid of that crap, the stores would actually be a pharmacy. Go figure? Moral of the story: If weight and health are important to you, don't purchase this crap at CVS or any other store. On occasion, for research purposes, I will watch the commercials during the evening news - most are prescription drug related.
I found this one incredibly bizarre. The guy is taking a statin - because his cholesterol is high. Because his cholesterol numbers are better on Crestor, he starts behaving like a teenage cheerleader. These types of commercials motivate me to live a healthy lifestyle. No doubt, eating properly and exercising is much more effective than being on a statin. Sadly, we have become a statin nation. ... she is 94-years-old. She is an inspiration and a great motivator. You can read all about her here. Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy ... he is 94-years old. I follow him on Facebook. He is an inspiration and a great motivator. I recommend listening to his TED speech below. When I grow up, I want to be Charles. Ingredients: 2 Frozen Bananas, 1/3 cup of almond milk, coconut shavings ... blend and freeze.
Forget about ice cream, this is delicious. Here they are with a brief explanation:
Here's the question I ask: Since we've been eating this type of food for over 50-years, why is it being taken out of our food supply now? Food dyes, sugar, and chemicals are in far-too-many "foods". My advice: Stop eating fast food and limit processed food. In other words, eat real food. Partially hydrogenated oil (aka trans fat) has been in our food supply for about 40-years. We've known for many years that it is an artery-clogger killer. All of a sudden it's being taken out of our food supply. It should never have been in it to begin with. Check out my site, PartiallyHydrogenated.com for more information. My advice: Look at all ingredients of baked and packaged food. If you see the words partially hydrogenated, put it back on the shelf. It's in seemingly "harmless" items like Nilla Wafers, Ritz Crackers, and much more. Be assured, many medical and pharmaceutical recommendations are changing. Statins, a widely prescribed medication, is being prescribed far too often. My advice: Become an educated medical care consumer and of course, consult with your doctor. I also recommend reading, Lies, Damn Lies, and Medical Science. And, I recommend viewing this video from one of my health-heroes: Dr. Nortin Hadler. This just in: While 120/80 is a target to shoot for, meds are not required until the numbers are much higher. My advice: Read the new recommendations. Highly controversial, but seemingly accurate ... most men die with Prostate Cancer, not because of it and frequently, the side effects of treatment are much worse than than living with contained cancer. My advice: Well, when my doc wanted me to see a Urologist because of an elevated PSA, I declined. It is known not to be a valid test. Again, do the research and be sure to discuss with your primary care physician. For a list of 101 Diet, Health, and Lifestyle Tips, go to 101Incredible.com.
