For health, there are many ways to eat. I call them diet camps. And, each camp believes it's "their way, or the highway" - from Vegan to Paleo and everything in-between. Below, are two videos that present the merits of each end of the spectrum (Paleo - actually Atkins - and Vegan). Read more below the videos ... Plan A: Plan B: Here's the scoop: Both ends of the spectrum (Vegan to Paleo) actually agree (they won't admit it) on much of what they eat. Take a look at the common area below. It's my contention, if you move in one direction or the other, you can maintain a very healthy lifestyle. I, for one, am neither Vegan or Paleo. However, I practice much of the common area and am very healthy. At the ripe old age of 58, I am on no meds and live an active lifestyle. My situation does not constitute scientific data (although I have researched a tremendous amount of scientific data), however, it's good enough for me. So, while these "cult-like" followers are very passionate about their diet and lifestyle, be assured, there are many healthful ways to eat. For additional reading, I recommend Dr. David Katz's article: Living (and dying) on a Diet of Unintended Consequences. In this excellent article, he covers the bases of the spectrum of eating styles with a historical perspective.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, this speaks volumes. If you drink one sugar-sweetened beverage per day (12-ounce - Coke/Pepsi), this is the amount of sugar you will be consuming annually - 32 pounds! Now think: What if you drink two, three, four or more sodas per day? Is there any wonder why we have an "obesity/diabetes epidemic"?
I can't make any promises, but this might make an impression. *I do not believe any doctors have this in their waiting room. And, the experts who desire a tax on soda and tell us "sugar is toxic" never present this picture. It's an interesting and clever ad. However, when I think of any sugar-sweetened beverage (juices too), I take these two great quotes to heart. Do you want to spend the rest of your life selling sugar water to children, or do you want a chance to change the world? Steve Jobs to John Sculley (CEO of PepsiCo) You wouldn't think of watering a plant with soda. - Michelle Obama Many people blame Coke for the obesity epidemic. I don't. I point the finger at The Main Street Diet - TheMainStreetDiet.com Do what you want with this information.
In a recent conversation with Alan Cassels, author of Selling Sickness, he stated to me: "I don' think the flu vaccine promotion benefits most people. I recently wrote this piece. In fact, I am starting to feel that we are going to look back at our societal enthusiasm for flu vaccinations the same way we look at blood letting." That last observation is pretty damning of the "flu vaccine industry". Time will tell. For now, every year, I opt-out of the flu shot. |
