Interesting video ... We both have similar health goals ... No meds! I'm 56 and he's 58. A recent New York Times article stated: The average adult over age 55 juggles six to eight medications daily. The good news: It's not that difficult to regain good health. Very interesting video about health and exercise. Watch this, then read Lies, Damn Lies, and Medical Science. After watching and reading, you might just say: "Oops." If you answered no, you will want to watch this 60 Minutes segment. With much candor, it demonstrates how we have become addicted to manufactured food. The title of the segment says it all: *Tweaking tastes and creating cravings. Very little surprises me about the American food system, however, I was surprised when the gentleman pictured below admitted that food companies try to addict us to their products. Her presentations are always interesting and informative. Typically the tips you get from TV news aren't great. However, I agree with every tip in this segment. She mentions that Americans spend between $1 - $2-billion on weight loss each year. However, it's actually a mind-boggling $60-billion! And, with an estimated 95% failure rate, it's like throwing money out the window. In this presentation, Dr. Ornish makes many interesting observations. My favorite is his input about telling someone to stop smoking. It's a great insight into the real problem of changing one's lifestyle. If you'd like to know a little about the American food system, this is an interesting report about it. And other interesting fruit facts. If this wasn't so pathetic, it would be funny. After watching the video, you'll appreciate this quote: I prefer butter to margarine because I trust cows more than chemists. - Joan Gussow Much of our food supply is genetically modified. The kicker is: In the U.S., it does not have to be labeled. From Dr. Oz, here's a primer about GMO's. And, below is the fascinating story about antibiotics entering our food system. Only Stephen Colbert could explain it in a truly hysterical manner. Watch and laugh.
You've been told (over and over again) to eat Salmon. It's got lots of Omega-3 - good for the heart. Well, the story of *farmed Salmon is not a heart-warming one. I recommend watching these videos for the details. Once you delve into the American food system, you begin to learn, there's a lot to the story. Much of our farmed Salmon comes from Norway. Here's how the story unfolds . . . *I've been told that the only Salmon that cannot be farmed is Sockeye Salmon. You might want to eat Sockeye as opposed to farmed Salmon. These two doctors were very important in my discoveries and findings . . . Drs. Caldwell Esselstyn and Colin Campbell. Dr. Esselstyn led me to believe that I could get my total cholesterol much lower via proper eating. It worked! Here are the results. Watch the trailer to the movie Forks Over Knives.
